Vehicle Crashes Into Cupcake Shop In Morehead City, 4 People Injured

Four people were injured Thursday when a vehicle crashed into a cupcake business in Morehead City.

It happened at "Happy Cakes Cupcakery."

According to police, 74-year-old Hazel Mucken was attempting to park in front of the shop, but never hit her brakes.

She crashed through the front of the shop and stopped when the car hit the sales counter.

Mucken has been charged with careless and reckless and unsafe movement.

Six people were inside at the time, including two children who were not injured.

Firefighters tell WITN four people were taken to the hospital with one person seriously hurt. One of the four injured was flown to Vidant Medical Center.

The business owners were featured on the Food Network TV reality show "Cupcake Wars," and won.

They recently opened the shop on Highway 24 in the Morehead Crossings Shopping Center.

Co-owner Amanda Diaz told us several people suffered cuts and abrasions and one person was pinned by the vehicle.

She said two kids were inside at the time, but thankfully were not hurt.
