Valentine's Day Gifts Still Selling Strong In Weak Economy

It's that time of the year again when red roses and chocolate kisses are on the menu, so we checked in at some local hot spots for Valentine's Day treats.

At the Flower Shoppe in Jacksonville they say this is one of the busiest times of the year. Compared to last Valentine's Day, the owner says business is steady. Curtis Russell has been in the flower business 33 years. He rented 4 extra vehicles and added four extra drivers to the three already on staff to help deal with the holiday rush.

Over at the Fresh Fruit Bouquet Company, they say they have more business than what they expected especially during a time many people are hurting financially.

"I was concerned because people things have been slow for them but for us we're doing great. We came in this morning the phones have not stopped ringing," said Fresh Fruit Bouquet Company Owner Karen Ramos.

To help customers, they created a more affordable bouquet which they say has been a hit.

If you want to insure "relations" with your special lady, It's best to buy some gifts. They like jewelry best. Candy is good, as are flowers, but the card must be sticky sweet, too. Big gifts are also a sure bet. New cars, gift cards to places like Belk or Brody's, computers, new HDTVs, etc.

To me just being there and saying I love you is enough. However if you want to spend 100 on a dozen roses by all means go for it!
