Vehicle Crash Causes Injury To City Employees

Members of the New Bern Police Department were injured in a crash Thursday after they collided with another vehicle.

The accident happened at the intersection of Country Club Rd. and US Highway 70 in New Bern around 3:30 p.m.

Barbara Bell, 69, of Pollocksville, struck the car that three members of the police department were in as she was coming off Highway 70.

Inside the city-owned van was Civilian Unit Supervisor Vivian Harrell, Police Service Technician Cynthia West and Officer David Welch. Harrell was driving the van at the time of the accident.

Harrell injured her right hand, and West also suffered minor injuries. The two were taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center where they were both treated and released.

Bell was cited for Failure to Yield the Right of Way.
