Two Killed In Parked Car On I-95

Two people were killed when a truck loaded with potato chips slammed into the back of their stopped car on I-95 this morning.

The Highway Patrol says Jeanie Evans, 48, of Enfield and Sharonda Hendericks, 26, of Roanoke Rapids were killed on impact. Their Honda was stopped in the right southbound lane around 5:30 a.m. just north of Rocky Mount. Trooper B.G. Demuth says the car's flashers were on, but they do not know why it was stopped on the highway.

The truck driver from Pennsylvania told troopers because of a curve in the interstate, at first he thought the vehicle was sitting on the shoulder. The trucker said when he realized where the car was, he couldn't switch lanes due to traffic and couldn't avoid hitting the vehicle.

Demuth says he doesn't believe any charges will be brought.
