Two Inmates Escape, Later Apprehended

Two inmates escaped from the Wayne County Detention Center Friday night after attacking an officer and stealing his keys according to authorities. The inmates were later apprehended.

Authorities say two inmates had managed to rig their cell door so it would appear to be shut. Then as Officer Albert Anders was making his rounds the two inmates attacked his head and body. The two inmates then locked him in their cell and took his keys and radio.

The inmates in the area were able to create enough noise to get detention officer to check on Anders; meanwhile the inmates were able to leave the Jail by using the Officer’s keys.

The two inmates were later located and apprehended several blocks away.

Michael Minard is currently being held in Wayne County Detention Center on Assault by strangulation; second degree kidnapping; assault on a female; communicating threats charges.

And Inmate Tracey Deaver is being held on statutory rape (3 counts); felony larceny and injury to personal property charges.

The incident is under investigation and both inmates will face additional charges including escape.

Officer Anders was transported to the Wayne Memorial Hospital, was treated and released.
