Two Divers Died In Same Place Days Apart

Two divers passed away off the coast of Wrightsville Beach this week in two separate incidents.

According to the Virginian Pilot, Amy Pieno, 48, of Hatteras Island, died leading a dive for shark teeth. The paper says the area Pieno died is known as shark tooth ledges. Officials are performing an autopsy to determine her cause of death.

Reports say a man from Maryland died in the same place four days before Pieno. He suffered an air embolism, which is a bubble trapped in a blood vessel.

My condolences go out toe Pieno's and the crew of the flying fish as well. I have come to know them over the past few years diving in the outer banks and know that she was a very fine lady as well as her husband. She will be dearly missed. I know she will be our guardian in times ahead.
