Greene and Lenoir counties will see some change up on the local level that has nothing to do with elections this year.
After nearly 35 years in local government, Greene County's manager, Don Davenport, will be stepping into a new role in the new year. He told WITN he is just not entirely sure what that new role will be.
"After 34, 35 years, it was just time," said Davenport of his Monday night resignation. "I had talked to each of the commissioners individually before the resignation," said Davenport, adding he is not certain what the next step, beyond stepping down, will be in his career. No word yet from Greene County on a replacement or interim. Davenport's last day will be December 31st, 2012.
Another new job posting in local government as of Tuesday morning: Kinston City Planner. Amanda Engesether announced she would be moving to her home state of Wisconsin by the end of November. The City of Kinston said her last day is scheduled as November 21st of this year. Current Kinston Community Development Planner, Adam Short, has been named the interim City Planner until a candidate is hired.
