A tropical disturbance near the Florida coast late Thursday may develop into a tropical storm off the Southeast coast over the weekend. The system will move northeast overnight then become stationary about 150 miles southeast of the North Carolina coast early Saturday. At that point the storm should move southwest in the direction of Georgia or northern Florida by Memorial Day. We could see some rough surf and an increased threat of dangerous rip currents. Otherwise, the Memorial Day weekend will feature highs in the 80s with only isolated showers and thunderstorms.
