Winterville Police say they expect to shut down a section of the south bound lane of Highway 11 in Winterville again late Friday night after a tractor trailer jackknifed in an embankment.
Traffic was first re-routed Friday afternoon about 5:00 when the wreck first happened in Winterville on Highway 11 near Reedy Branch Road. Police say the big rig ran off the road and about 110 gallons of diesel spilled from its own fuel tanks - not from freight.
The driver was taken to Pitt County Memorial and was able to speak to investigators. His condition was not available late Friday.
Police said a haz-mat crew was expected to arrive late Friday night from Rocky Mount for cleanup of the fuel. Firefighters and the Department of Transportation responded to the scene and spread materials earlier in the day to make sure the fuel didn't spread.
