Three ECU Football Assistant Coaches Leaving

Three of Head Pirate Football Coach Ruffin McNeill's assistant coaches are going to the west coast.

Antonio Huffman, Dennis Simmons and Clay McGuire are leaving East Carolina for Washington State. Jeff Charles, the Voice of the Pirates, reported the departures on WITN News at Sunrise on Tuesday.

The coaches who served under McNeill are taking jobs with their former boss, Mike Leach, who used to be the head coach at Texas Tech.

Huffman was the director of football operations at ECU. Charles called Huffman "Ruff's right-hand man." McGuire was the running backs coach and special teams coordinator. Simmons was the outside wide receivers coach.

Greenville is not the only college town with gangs and crime. James Madison is hiding a very dangerous fact that is has a high Espanic gang population that attacks students. I had a friend's son attacked and almost beatened to death by one of 3 gangs. Old Dominion has had students robbered, shot and killed this year and William and Mary has had its share of robberies. UNC had its student gov pres killed and rapes go on there too. So stop blaming crime but agree police and city counsel need to crack down hard on gangs and crime and stop pussy footing around. I think football will be fine and screw the BCS

ECU football will be fine.2012 Schedule is not quite as tough.Non Conference schedules are South Carolina,UNC,Navy,& App State. Might / Should win a couple of those(Maybe 3?). Just give Ruff a chance. I Remember back in time that Frank Beamer @ Va Tech were struggling when Beamer first started there & He was on the hot seat.Just look at where Va Tech is today. So Patience sometimes pays off. Rio Johnson is the QB in waiting. He is really good.Might prove to be a better QB than Davis?Time will tell.ECU might win 7-9 games in 2012.

On an unrelated note, it's great to see that Ev Withers landed in a better place at a legitimte football power. Won't be too much of an adjustment since OSU cheats too.

Don't worry about coaches leaving - just go out and buy those tickets to the "Virtual Bowl." What a great way to save ECU fans money. Don't qualify for a bowl game, but sell tickets anyway. That way no one has to put up with the expense and headache of travleing to a real football game. I'm sure lots of schools will want to reward their fans that way next year. BTW, I hope WITN posts the score from the "Virtual Bowl" game. Post the stats too so we will know how many virtual turnovers we had.

What a stupid idea! maybe the pirate club can come up with a virtual head coach and AD to boot! or maybe a starting qb who can see over the line next year LOL a 50,000 seat stadium empty next november will change alot of things at ecu, a 100 million dollars have been spent on this woeful mess, ECU will be looking for a new head coach, AD for starters after a 4-8 or worse season in 2012

Are you on drugs boy? You have no idea what you are talking payers money??? seriously man how ignorant can you be? I don't know what part of the pirates club you don't understand... and please post links of the "research" you found that shows ECU uses tax payers money as well as students tution, and no student fees ARE NOT not used for this. There's a thing called a "GYM" and also things called intramural sports where is provided to students but at a fee which is covered in tution.

The players have been staying out of trouble, most of them are doing ok in class. Give Coach Ruffin two more years to prove what the Pirates can do on the field. Buying out contracts is a waste of money.

Love it how this is the most viewed article haha...ECU will be fine and so will Ruff, next year our schedule is not nearly as hard (except for USC and UNC both being played away). We should easily win 8 or 9 games next year, thus making articles on this website a whole lot harder for the haters to comment on. BTW is dave on here posting about ECU? Poor ol" dave and his love for little boys....

Riley will be gone soon now that he doesn't have a QB to work with. ECU will struggle to win 6 games next year and beyond.

Be real. They're jumping ship NOW because they see the handwriting on the wall. All of them will be out looking for jobs after next year. Conference USA is losing two too many teams to be relevant at all. Might as well have stayed in the Colonial Conference with James Madison, William & Mary, etc. ECU had their chance and blew it. Nobody is ever going to invite them to the Big Dance, or to join a Big Boy Conference.
