The Impact Of Gas Prices On Florists

As gas prices continue to rise, florists say they're feeling the affects, especially when it comes to deliveries.

In just the past week the national average for regular unleaded has increased from $3.37 to $3.51, that's 14 cents in one week. In New Bern many of the stations were priced a few cents below the national average.

Jonathan Wiley, owner of Wiley Florist, says if prices continue to increase they are going to have to make some sort of change to their deliveries. "We haven't raised them, it's been something I've been thinking about, we probably should have, we probably should in the future, but one of those two things if gas keeps going up will probably have to do either raise our delivery rates or trim our delivery area."

Several other florists we talked with say they're facing a similar situation as they try and determine how to deal with the rising gas prices.

Wiley says they average 30 delivers covering 200 miles per day.

Thank you Gubba. Thank you very much. We need honesty and we need government officials to step in and stop all this money stealing these oil executives are doing to the common working citizen. This is way out of hand. These high gas prices means less jobs and means more unemployment to come all cause of having to spend so much more on gas, leading to more people looking for unemployment checks, then meaning unemployment would run out, stranding some middle class citizens homeless due to all the extra expense (including utilities and groceries). That leads to more shootings and robberies from people who may in the future be unable to find a job. At the same time, only give tax breaks if the companies are drilling oil for the United States and if they will stop paying their executives so high. This is just another example of those crooks driving the United States to third world. Look at how that has led the middle east to as bad of conditions ever.

Florists. really? Is that the hardest edge the news can come up with? Nothing about the airlines halting expansion plans, nothing about petroleum based products. C'mon.

This mess is the fault of all parties, a continued trend to make sure US OIl companies get the most for their Oil, get tax breaks, but yet it's never their fault. We have the resources to drill and bring up much much more Oil, maybe not to drill all that we need, but to cut some of the dependency off. It's Bush's fault and it's Obama fault. It's greed for the Oil companies, that if you have noticed, during these hard times, have made more money than anyone. Policy and Politicians can change this. But, when the Oil companies have you in their pocket.....nothing happens. Please find us someone who actually cares how the US citizens are doing. I'm sorry all you Savior believers, but he has failed you and everyone else. Just like Purdue...Obama, and most everyone else(REPUB or DEMO)Get rid of them vote them out. Someone give us a Politicians that cares.....I'm so ready for that

Jim, Lavon's moped is in the shop. I am sure he is feeling this hopey changey at $3.50 a gallon. Well, why these guys vote themselves a paycut...doesn't make any sense. Oh...I am sure Barlow will be here blaming Bush and Cheney....its what he does. He never considered that by placing a moritorium on drilling...it just might raise prices for him....of course it doesn't effect him...its only those rich people getting richer....
