The Heat Continues With a Possible Thunderstorm

The heat will continue across eastern North Carolina on Thursday. The atmosphere is becoming increasingly unstable so there will be a few thunderstorms during the afternoon. Coverage should be around 30% to 40% not only Thursday but also through the upcoming weekend. Temperatures will hit the lower 90s with heat indices near 100°.

Smoke from the wildfires will continue for the remainder of the week. Southwesterly winds will blow smoke from the Pender County wildfire across southern and central areas of eastern North Carolina. The Dare County wildfire will push smoke across much of the Outer Banks through the weekend. Little relief is expected until significant rainfall moves into the area.

I don't know about the rest of the area, but it seems like they dodged a bullet in Ayden. The cloud cover kept things down where you could actually walk around town without breaking into a sweat. I don't think they reached that 97 degree mark as forecast, thank God!
