The heat continued to build across eastern North Carolina Tuesday afternoon. Most inland communities hit the lower to middle 90s while coastal locations held in the middle 80s. Hot weather will be prevalent through the Memorial Day Weekend. Afternoon highs will reach the lower to middle 90s the next two days then back off slightly to around 90 degrees on Friday and Saturday. Heat index values will range in the middle to upper 90s most afternoons. No widespread rainfall is expected but isolated to stray thunderstorms could occur any afternoon or evening.
