Terry Holland Talks Conference Realignment

ECU Athletics Director Terry Holland spoke Wednesday at the Greater Greenville Sports Club.

Holland did not give any specifics about the possibility of a merger between the Big East, Conference USA and the Mountain West Conference. Later in the day published reports from the Las Vegas Review Journal stated that Big East officials had canceled a trip to New York to talk about a potential merger. Speculation is that the West Virginia may not depart the Big East, in which case the league may not feel a conference merger is necessary.

WITN sports director Billy Weaver talked with Terry Holland recently about a possible three conference merger to create college football's first ever "Super Conference." Holland is in favor of such conference involving Conference USA, the Mountain West and the Big East.

"I don't think there is any limitations, said Holland. We've looked at 32 team models in the past of four divisions of eight teams each and everybody plays seven divisional games and then they have a playoff essentially to determine their champion. You can make it work."

TO: The spelling pro Everybody makes mistakes. You can take your UNC crap and stick it where the moon won't shine. UNC is being investigated, not WITN. And, just so you forgot, part of the reason is for academic fraud.

The Big East bailing on the meeting at the last minute tells me they are lost. Banking on WVU to 'save' the conference, or any one school, seems asinine. The Big 12 is being influenced by politicians from Ky., who want Louisville for the Big 12 instead of WVU. There could be investigations due to inappropriate contact which resulted in the reneged offer to WVU. As for WITN, they continue to disappoint. If they would own their mistakes (stories, football games), they might get better.
