Terrorism Suspect Pleads Guilty In New Bern Federal Court

A Johnston County man accused of being the leader of a U.S.-based terrorism ring had pleaded guilty in New Bern federal court today.

Security was extremely tight around the federal courthouse for the appearance of Daniel Boyd. In a plea deal with the government Boyd admitted to two of 11 counts that he was facing.

Boyd pleaded guilty to conspiracy to provide materials and support to terrorists and conspiracy to murder, kidnap, maim and injure persons in a foreign country. He will be sentenced in about three months and faces up to life in prison plus a $500,000 fine.

Prosecutors accused Boyd and several other people in July 2009 of plotting international terrorism and conspiring to support terrorism. They accused Boyd of leading the work and plotting to attack government installations and kill U.S. military personnel.

The FBI has said agents seized some two dozen guns and more than 27,000 rounds of ammunition from Boyd's home. The indictment claims some of the men were training in military-style tactics and that all were plotting to kill, kidnap and maim as part of holy war.

During a 2009 detention hearing, federal authorities played audio tapes of Boyd talking in his home about protecting Muslims at all costs. It included long discussions about the struggle of Muslims, the honor of martyrdom and his disgust with the U.S. military.

"I love jihad. I love to stand there and fight for the sake of Allah," a voice identified as Boyd said.

More money to have someone put to death due to all of the state lawyer fees. Sadly its cheaper to keep him in prison.

treason is still punishable by hanging. why would we pay to keep him in prison after plotting to kill US soldiers? Let him hang and die for his cause

If a radical example were made of him, there would be fewer copycats in the future. Have my own gripes about the US government but it's the only government we have. We have to make it work.

Traitor! I guess our courts will allow the system to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars supporting this thing for years unending providing him with free medical and protecting his civil rights guaranteed to citizens who are not traitors. It's very important we remain politically correct ya know.

"Wow"--If the current Administration is not "dealing" with a foreign threat in Afghanistan right now, what would you call it? If the current Department of Justice is not "dealing" with a terrorist threat right now, what do think prompted the guilty plea in New Bern? Have you, personally, done anything in terms of "definitive (correct spelling) action" to protect your country, as I have for many years? Or are your comments merely "lip service"? (By the way, It was not the Mayor of Philadelphia who may the "wussified" remark...it was the Governor of Pennsylvania, discussing the NFL's decision to postpone and relocate a football game...it had absolutely nothing to do with dealing with a foreign threat.

I completely agree with Scott and WOW. The fact that there was no action for 2 years speaks volumes. It's just ridiculous.
