Teenager Killed After Shooting At Large Party

Deputies say gunfire erupted at a large party in Halifax county killing an 18-year-old bystander.

Officers were called out to a loud party in the Medoc area of Halifax county. They say several hundred people were attending the party. Then officers heard gunshots. Deputies arrested the shooter at the scene for shooting in public.

An officer then noticed a male lying in the yard of a residence on Highway 48, who had been shot in the back. The officer performed CPR on the victim until Emergency Medical Personnel arrived. The shooting victim, 18-year-old Kevin Davis, later died.

According to Investigators two men were arguing at the party just before shots were fired. Davis was not part of the argument and is believed to have been an innocent bystander.

28-year-old Delorean Taylor of Enfield has been charged with murder and is currently being held at the Halifax County Detention Center under no bond. His court date is set for July 6, 2011.

Police were called like 25 times so 911 dispatcher said, but only two were there and they were inside their cars. When there is nothing go in on in this area police are hot riding around, but they should have already been out patrolling area before all this even happend. I think they should be held accountable for not stepping up and performing the duties when calls were made because there were so many people and you couldnt pass through area safely.

Thug life is no life. So many have struggled in attempts to improve others lives, only to have ignorance abolish their efforts. We ALL have the same opportunities in life. Stop wasting everyone's time and money on YOUR poor decisions. WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!

Gatherings are allowed because it is a free country. This idiot just decided to shoot at it because he is as dumb as bricks. HIs parents should be ashamed and should take part of the blame (if anyone an find them).

Wanna bet the shooter has a felony record? It's a felony in itself for a felon to possess a firearm of any kind.

Wanna bet the FEDS don't charge him as a felon in possession of a firearm? He can be charged under state statute or federal statute. The federal charge carries a heavier penalty and doesn't allow time off for good behavior. I'll also bet the charges are reduced on plea bargain to make the D.A. look better.

Mike, Why in the world would a Federal Prosecutor take on a possession of a firearm case, when he will be tried and most likely convicted of killing someone? Sure they could bog down the already swamped court system by just tacking on charge after charge, going before 2 or 3 different courts, etc.. Glad someone else gets to make those decisions!

Like I said earlier... the DA will plea bargain down to wreckless endangerment or manslaughter at worst. The gun charge will probably go away or be included. He'll get 5 years max. Half that off up front and and another half of for constructive time makes his lockup a little over a year. The FED charge can get him 10 years hard time and with witnesses should be a slam dunk case that shouldn't take over an hour to argue.

Halifax county 911 was called several hours in advance for this party and the crowd there. When all this took place only two were there on side of the road and not doing anything about. They should have patrolled area when calls came in. Police ride highway when nothing is happening in the area like somebdy stole something, but where we they when they were really needed and called. This could have been controlled earlier before shoots were even fired.
