High School Student Dies In Nash County Crash

A 16-year-old junior at Southern Nash High School is dead after a single car wreck in Nash County Saturday night.

According to State Highway Patrol, Caroline Hathaway of Elm City was driving on Sandy Cross Road about 5 miles south of Nashville around 5:45 p.m. when she lost control of the car.

The car hit a ditch, then a tree, and overturned. Officials say Hathaway was thrown from the car and the car landed on her. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to officials.

Two passengers inside the car, ages 15 and 16, were taken to the hospital with injuries, but have since been released.

Officials say it was snowing at the time of the accident.
