Teen Charged With Trying To Kill Police Officer

A teenager is accused of trying to kill a Rocky Mount police officer.

Police say it happened Thursday night around 11:00 p.m. on Paul Street.

Vernon Romain is charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, possession of a stolen firearm, discharging a firearm in the city limits, shooting into an occupied dwelling, possession of marijuana and resisting a public officer.

Police say during a traffic stop one of the passengers ran from the car and the officer chased him. In front of 816 Paul Street, police say the 16-year-old fired at the officer. The bullet struck the house.

After an additional chase, police say Romain was arrested and the firearm, along with some marijuana, was seized. No one was injured in the shooting.

Romain was jailed on a $1.5 million bond.

No ONE made him shoot at that officer. I am glad that he did not kill the officer and that this garbage rots in prison. Even if us hard working citizens are paying for his meals while in prison at least its one more criminal off the streets not trying to commit murder.

Rocky Mount murder hole in the news again. What a dump. WITN, someone from you staff should hang around the ER on a weekend and report all the gun shot and stabbing victims. Eastern NC would be shocked of your findings

Still ashame we have to pay for a trial, and then pay for him to hang around in prison getting 3 meals per day, playin ball with most of the same people he was hanging with anyway, watching cable tv unlike at home, getting to lift weights and work out so when he gets out, he will be more in shape to get away next time, since you know he has no chance of rehabilitation. 16 yoa. Even if he gets 20 years, 36, plenty of time for more crime.

Such a shame. I wish his grandmother had done a better job of raising him.

      Where are the parents?

Kids these days are the product of their parenting. NONE. No church, no 2 parent home, no one helping with homework, kids coming home to an empty house, and most don't know who their Daddy is. If they do? He is still not around. There is your problem with kids these days. CRAPPY PARENTS.

Wait until Richardson walks. These thugs will then know as long as they do not have 50 eye witnesses taking pictures of the shooting they can get away with murder. The key will be to be sure the victim cannot testify.

I do agree with you because God still can save this brother if he wants to be saved. God is a forgiving God.

I am more concerned and care more about the police officer: Then a punk 16 year old carrying and shooting at the officer during a foot chase because of a little weed. MAYBE if they dig deeper the two were just running from some other illegal act.
