A teenager is accused of trying to kill a Rocky Mount police officer.
Police say it happened Thursday night around 11:00 p.m. on Paul Street.
Vernon Romain is charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, possession of a stolen firearm, discharging a firearm in the city limits, shooting into an occupied dwelling, possession of marijuana and resisting a public officer.
Police say during a traffic stop one of the passengers ran from the car and the officer chased him. In front of 816 Paul Street, police say the 16-year-old fired at the officer. The bullet struck the house.
After an additional chase, police say Romain was arrested and the firearm, along with some marijuana, was seized. No one was injured in the shooting.
Romain was jailed on a $1.5 million bond.
