Taxes Due A Few Days Later Than Normal, Thanks To D.C. Holiday

It's April 15th, which is normally known as tax day. However this year, because today is Emancipation Day in Washington DC, there are 3 extra days to file.

At Liberty Income Tax on South Glenburine Road in New Bern, senior tax preparer Robert Rhyne says this tax season is similar to last year, even with the extension. Down the road at H&R Block, they are also seeing a steady stream of people. Office manager Margaret Schumacher says some are surprised to find out Fri day is not tax day.

"We've had several people come in over the past couple of days who we've told you have until Monday. There's no need to hurry up and try to get it done today if you have more information, bring it in, some people are shocked by it, but actually a good many people do know about it," said senior tax preparer Robert Rhyne.

All returns must be e-filed or post marked by Monday April 18th.
