Tarboro Woman Killed In Crash During Heavy Rains

A Tarboro woman died after her husband's vehicle struck a concrete bridge abutment during heavy rains Saturday afternoon in Havelock.

Mary Wells, 66, died at a scene after suffering multiple body trauma. Her 68 year old husband, Robert, had to be cut from the pickup truck and is at Vidant Medical Center.

Police say the wreck happened around 4:25 p.m. on Church Road. The pickup ended up on it's top and the husband had to be cut out of the vehicle.

Police are awaiting reconstruction data and toxicology reports to determine if there were any contributing causes to the crash. Due to his injuries, police have yet to speak with the husband at length about the accident.
