TROOPERS: Speed Factor In Elderly Driver's Death

Troopers say speed is a factor in a crash that killed on elderly man this past weekend in Bertie County.

Killed in the Saturday noon accident was 77-year-old Harry Culver.

The Highway Patrol says Culver was heading north on Tyler School Road outside of Roxobel in Bertie County, when his vehicle went left of center. Troopers say he over-corrected to avoid an oncoming car, his vehicle went into a field and then struck an irrigation pipe. Culver was trapped in the vehicle and killed on impact.

Troopers say the man was not wearing a seat belt. A passenger in the vehicle had minor cuts and bruises and has been released from the hospital.
