Funeral To Be Held For Swansboro Mayor Pro Tem & Retired Police Chief Dies

Swansboro's mayor pro tem and retired police chief will be laid to rest Tuesday. Harry "Pug" Pugliese passed away Friday morning after a brief hospital stay for treatment of his heart.

The funeral will be held at the Swansboro Civic Center at 11 a.m.

Pugliese was a Swansboro resident for 45 years and was elected to the town board in 2008.

In 2005 he retired as police chief, after serving the town for 15 years. Pugliese began his law enforcement career in 1972 as a reserve officer for the town. He then went to Emerald Isle for a full time position, and then in 1974 joined the Onslow County Sheriff's Department where he served until 1990.

Pugliese is survived by his wife, Brenda, the retired head of the county's E-911 program, along with two children.
