A surge of warm air came across eastern North Carolina Wednesday ahead of a cold front that brought showers in the morning. Highs reached the lower to middle 70s before the front arrived. Much colder air will filter into the area overnight with lows dipping into the 30s. There should be plenty of sunshine Thursday as highs hit the middle 40s. Clouds will increase and rain will develop by Friday afternoon and continue into Saturday. Temperatures will remain chilly.
