The hot summer of 2011 will continue this week across eastern North Carolina. Temperatures will soar into the middle 90s Tuesday afternoon under mostly sunny skies. A weak cool front to our north may spark some widely scattered thunderstorms Tuesday night or Wednesday but most locations will remain free of rain. Relative humidity levels will be slowly increasing and that will take heat indices well into the 90s during the afternoon. More intense heat can be expected late in the week.
