Sunday Storms Cause Damage, Outages

Sunday night's storms caused damage for several communities, including a Nash County church.

A lightning strike around 6 p.m. started a fire at Greater Saint Delight Baptist Church. The church is located on Red Bud Rd in Castalia. Firefighters were able to control the blaze quickly, according to the Rocky Mount Telegram.

There were several reports of downed trees and thousands of power outages all across Eastern Carolina.

Officials say Moss Hill Elementary in Kinston suffered minor damage.
