Subway's Jared Visiting Pitt County School

He's famous for losing lots of weight by eating only Subway sandwiches.
On Thursday, Jared from Subway is visiting Farmville Middle School in Pitt county.

The sandwich celebrity is visiting the school in recognition of the Hoops for Heart Fundraiser. That's run through the American Heart Association, where teams pay to participate in a basketball tournament.

It is high time someone with a little class and healthier eating habits came to this "little strip of heaven". Subway is much better than the swill you Eastern NC-ers love so much- hush puppies and pork barbecue. Give me a break, please!

wait a minute homeboy, or NON homeboy....i eat at subway often. But there's nothing wrong with a little Barbeque, hush puppies and slaw. And we won't even get into a greasy covered with chili and onions Els Burger, or a not very heathly extra chili Bills Hot dog!!!! I still eat that stuff once in a while, just not like i used to.

I would tell you how we prepared it up North, but you probably could not grasp the basic fundamentals. And as far as Barney Frank, not his kind of guy at all. Perhaps YOU are since you love to bandy his name around all the time. 100% hetero my good man....and liberal to boot - the best of ALL worlds!!

Rick Perry the GOP from Texas was right, I've had road kill that tasted better than this stuff. We always prepare a smoked brisket when we want the best. Not this hog lot droppings.

Well, thanks for insulting the local fare. It depends on how it's prepared. Pork is the 'other white meat' to quote an old commercial. Lean pork, on a whole-grain bun with a side of vinegar-based cole slaw is really the best comfort food around. BTW, the state of N.C. is indeed, famous for some of the best BBQ in the south. The recipes vary from the mountains, to the Piedmont, to ENC. All have their unique BBQ 'virtues'.

Actually, I do not have internet at home, nor do I have satellite TV, and I don't play videos. I do have a cell phone, but had to give up the home phone to get it. I read a lot of books.

You had a cell phone in 1984?

I work full time, for local govt.and have worked all my adult life. My salary is a few dollars above the 200% poverty level. I do not get welfare or food stamps, but because of poverty, my family's main diet is carbohydrates. Can't tell you how many times we would have preferred a healthy meal rather than ramen noodles!

Sounds like maybe you should have studied harder...or maybe your food budget needs to be scrutinized? I went without cable TV, internet, cell phone and a car for about a year in 1984 while I was in college. I pinched pennies and ate pretty good at the same time. But I guess video games, cable TV, internet service and other things are high priority for you & your family....hummm? you keep eating that cheap soup! Blame someone else while you're at it.

Thats garbage, and albeit eating healthy is more expensive than eating poor, that is a choice you made!! I know because I made the same choice until I said enough was enough. I no longer have satellite TV and even drive an older car, don't have a boat or 4 wheeler and don't have any cash consuming habits and I am not rich either by no means. But I now, and have for a while, eaten healthy and get excercise as does my wife (and we eat out subway) and myself 87 pounds less, and she 46 pounds less, cheer every day at that decision we made. All you just offered was an excuse.

What a great way to make a living. Being paid to travel, meet people, and promote good food. We should all be so lucky.
