Student Facing Threat, Concealing Weapon Charges

A 7th grader is in trouble after school officials say they found a pellet gun on him Thursday morning and police say he made threats to another student.

It happened at E.B. Aycock Middle School in Greenville. Pitt County Schools spokeswoman Heather Mayo says Wednesday the student was seen raising his shirt and held the pellet gun tucked in his shirt. She says the students who saw this didn't immediately tell school authorities, but police were called by one of their mothers.

Thursday morning they found the unloaded pellet gun in the boy's desk.

Greenville police say the student made inappropriate comments to another student while show the pistol. The student will be charged with communicating threats, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon and two counts of carrying a weapon onto educational property.

Mayo it was a serious matter and that the 7th grader will be disciplined according to the school system's code of conduct.

    Reducing the number of adults working in the schools now would be a safety hazard and could result in lawsuits.

    I hate to say this, but this school is completely out of control. It has been for a few years. I empathize with the employees that work there. Just ask other parents whose children attend this school and many will tell you the same thing. God bless the dedicated teachers who work there and I pray for your safety as well as the safety of all the students.
