Storm Knocks Out Power

Thousands of people in Central North Carolina are without power, while some outages are starting to be reported in Eastern Carolina.

Dominion Power says approximately 223 people have lost power in Halifax in Halifax County, southwest of Roanoke Rapids. The power company estimates it could be 5 p.m. before the power is restored. A power line was damaged, causing the outage.

Progress Energy says 100 people have lost power in Halifax County, 223 lost power in Nash County, and 520 in Wayne County

Nearly 7,000 Progress Energy customers in Wake County have lost power. Outages are reported in several of the counties in the central section of the state.
