STORM REPORTS: Widespread Damage, Roads Closed, Power Outages

We are getting many reports of power outages and storm damage in the East due to severe thunderstorms in the area.

Duplin County:
Quarter size hail.

Pitt County:
Strong winds. Mail box blew over. Reports of power outages. Reports of trees down. Tree down on house on Eleanor Street.

Beaufort County:
Child's wooden swing set knocked over. Trees falling over. Strong straight line winds. Reports of power outages.
Ten to twelve boats capsized near Washington.

Craven County: Strong winds and heavy rain.

Lenoir County:
Trees down and damage to mobile home in La Grange.

Message from Greenville Utilities:

A late afternoon storm with winds topping out at 63 mph caused power outages for approximately 15,000 GUC customers. As of 5:30 p.m., power has been restored to about 3,000 customer, with 12,000 outages remaining. Most of the outages occurred in the eastern part of the county including the Stokes area, Red Banks/Greenville Boulevard (Evans to Arlington), Old Creek Road, Pactolus Road, Portertown Road, Simpson, Stokestown area and Old River Road.

Greenville Utilities crews are working to restore all outages as quickly and safety as possible.
