Stepbrothers Arrested For New Bern Shooting

Two stepbrothers are accused of shooting a man in New Bern.

Police arrested 34-year-old John Valentin and his juvenile stepbrother. Police say the two shot 39-year-old Curtis Shaw during a fight on Tuesday. It happened near Hamilton Drive in the Craven Terrace Housing Development.

Valentin and his stepbrother were arrested Wednesday and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Valentin was also charged with sell and delivery of cocaine for an unrelated incident. He was booked into the Craven County Jail under an $800,000 Secured Bond with a first appearance of March 3, 2011. His stepbrother was placed in the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center under a secure custody order awaiting a judicial hearing.

Shaw was taken to Carolina East Medical Center where he was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital. Police say he is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
