Remember folks, under NC law, a State of Emergency means you can't be in possession of firearms off your own property. So if you evacuate, you have to leave all your firearms at home, or you are committing a crime. That includes ALL guns--hunting rifles, shotguns, and handguns. This includes citizens from other areas that happen to be traveling through Onslow County too--even if you have a permit, you CAN NOT be in possession of a firearm in the area of a declared State of Emergency... The time when we MOST need to be armed--in an Emergency when Law enforcement is already stretched to it's limits--we are prohibited from having our firearms. And if we evacuate, the law seems to believe that leaving them in our unattended homes (for criminals to easily steal) is more safe than taking them with us, with our other "valuables"... Call your Representative, and tell them that this law needs to be changed.

This and a couple of other suggestions pertaining to gun laws have been brought to Stephen Laroque's attention. He liked the ideas presented to him and said that he was going to look into them. Thus far, he has done everything he told us he was going to do, so I believe you may see some changes to current statutes concerning weapons.
