Stan White Elected To Replace Former State Senate Leader Basnight

A committee of North Carolina Democrats has chosen a former Dare County commissioner to the remainder of the term of former state Senate leader Marc Basnight.

District Chairman Chris Hardee headed the meeting and says Stan White was elected from 7 nominees to replace Basnight at a meeting Friday night of the North Carolina Democratic Party 1st District Senate Executive Committee.

White is a Nags Head businessman and a current member of the state Board of Transportation. His name will be sent to Gov. Beverly Perdue, who will appoint him to fill the vacancy.

Basnight, the longest-serving head of a legislative body in North Carolina history, announced on Jan. 4 that he would resign his seat before the new session begins because of a chronic health condition that affects his speech.

Just goes to prove again , that the voters do not really run the state. Backdoor deals from egomaniacts in Raleigh run the state. This starts at the governor on down. If you think differently, you are wrong.

TO Keith and Bob, You guys better sell your Killing nets as soon as possible. Why should we hook and line boys(many thousands now forming a say so) want to watch you boys steal our resources(Trout, Reds, perch, Flounder, Stripers, etc.) and send them to Kansas or wherever. We want to catch them ourselves. Believe me, YOU are being watched. You Buffaloes of the killing net for profit are going to go down. The people of NC are getting wise to you types. Money, money, money makes you Kill, Kill, Kill, with your tremendous BYCATCHES by the thousands. Stan White will not be able to stop the new Bills to Legislature that are heading our way very soon. Stan realizes the multi millions of dollars heading to the Beach to catch their own fish!!!!!!!!!! Also You Turtle and Pelican and other wildlife Killers are being hunted down by the authorities NOW. Stan White agrees with this!! Wonder Why??????? Say goodbye to the Nets!!! Like Texas,Florida,Georgia,South Carolina,Virginia, Louisiana etc.

Only a true whiner could turn this into an arguement about gill netting. Ole Hood is doing such a great job for Beaufort county you certainly wouldn't want to lose him now would you?

Well, Marc and the insiders gamed us again. It's not like we couldn't see it coming. Concerning the bacon: Where will it be carved from? The axe is the only thing that can save us, and it is way overdue.

Funny that WITN chose to portray this as an election. It wasn't. It was a group of democrat party hacks picking one of their cronies. It's nothing against Mr. White personally it's simply un-American how voters were disenfranchised this way. It's the same as the Dems do in Carteret County but the voters where able to stop them this time. You simply cannot convince me that Mr. Basnight intended to serve any of this term when he ran. It's quite possible that the electorate would have elected Mr. White if he had run instead of Mr. Basnight. If Mr. White had any honor, he would not accept and would insist on a special election. I am so happy that the corrupt democrats that have run this state into the ground are no longer in power. Now, we just need to get rid of our either incompetent or equally corrupt( I can't decide which) governor in 2012.

It's time to cut the bacon, that's why we are in the problem that we are in. Where does the bacon come from??? We are in a 4 billion dollar bacon plroblem right now. Please do not provide me with a legislator that brings home bacon, I want a legislator with a big axe..They need to treat MY state budget like I have to treat my personal budget.

I would have preferred to see Arthur win, but I think Stan will do fine. As our region's only state senator we need to support him and hope he can bring home some bacon.
