Southside Girls, Croatan Boys Win Conference Titles

The Southside girls and the Croatan boys are among the area teams that have locked down conference basketball titles as the regular season schedule comes to a close.

The Southside girls, ranked #3 in the latest Class 1-A State poll, knocked off top ranked Riverside Tuesday night in Williamston 74-67. Katisha Hyman scored 26 points in the victory as the Seahawks improve to 21-2 and secure the 1-A Four Rivers Crown. Riverside drops to 21-2 on the season.

The Croatan boys team picked up the school's first ever basketball conference title by beating South Lenoir 70-53 on the road to clinch the 2-A East Central title. Croatan improved to 19-1, 12-1 in the conference. The Cougars close out the regular season Friday night at home against Richlands. The Cougars currently hold a two game advantage over Richlands in the conference standings.

Southside and Riverside are exactly tied for 1st in the conference. Both teams 22-2 both 13-1 in conference. So tell me how Southside wrapped up conference victory when they split during regular season and both teams have one non-conference loss? Both teams are very good and could see each other 2 more times this year. Just get the facts straight please.

Way to go Lady Hawks, we need'ed that one Yes there was a miscue by WITN, both teams are tied and yes Riverside did take one at THE NEST. Both are very true statements. Heres my point " BOTH ARE VERY VERY GOOD TEAMS'. Southside has thier one lose to Riverside and a lose in the West Craven holiday tournament to one of two very good 3-A teams, who we still don't know because Witn failed to inform. Both Teams are going to make alot of noise come playoffs time. Congrats to Riverside and to the awesome Lady Hawks, both very very good teams. Witn please give both of these teams the respect that they both deserve. GO HAWKS.

It was a very "on edge" game to watch. Riverside got in one point of Southside. Then the refs started getting involoved. Great game girls; we still have one game to go. Just wish this game was called the same for both teams.

Southside has no title, they have a share of the regular season title. They are co-champions for the regular season title. The actual conference championship is determined this coming week in the Conference Tournament. Riverside, who won a coin flip with Southside, will be the Number 1 seed in the Tournament and Southside number 2. If higher seeds win throughout the tournament, Riverside and Southside will play for the Championship of the conference on Friday night. Sorry Anonymous, talking without knowing anything can make you look like a dummy. Careful.

From your own Washington Daily News: CHOCOWINITY — The window of opportunity to win a state title is closing for Katisha Hyman but it’s a safe bet that the Southside senior isn’t feeling the crunch. In fact, it just fuels her fire. The Seahawks’ star point guard has always played her best when the all the chips are on the table and that will be the case from here on out. Southside, the No. 3 ranked 1-A team in the state, finished the regular season this week with 22-2 record and split the Four Rivers Conference championship with Riverside, the No. 1 ranked 1-A team in North Carolina.
