You may have noticed the smoke from the Croatan fire still lingering where you are.
In Oriental, Pamlico County some residents have adjusted their outdoor plans due to the smoke.
Thursday was a quiet day on the streets and waterfront in Oriental where residents say inside is just a better place to be while the fire continues to burn in Craven County.
Normally on a hot summer day the water would be full of boaters. Thanks to the smoke affecting the air quality that is not the case. Several boats sat docked while haze was still in the distance. A few streets off the dock is M&M's Cafe where one construction company has adjusted its hours to accommodate the unhealthy conditions while trying to complete an outdoor staircase for the restaurant. Inside are several customers enjoying the smoke free air and A.C. One customer, June Blayney says, "We love to go out on our boat and if the smoke is heavy of course we don't go and I love to work in the yard and if its heavy I don't do that. I don't think its good for you."
A code red alert continues for Pamlico County.
