Six Hospitalized After SUV Flips

Six people were hospitalized Sunday night after the vehicle they were in flipped on U.S. 64 in Martin county. Officials are blaming weather for the wreck.

According to troopers the accident happened around 6:55 p.m. on U.S. 64 near Bailey Rd. in Williamston.

Troopers say the six people inside a 2002 Chevy Avalanche stopped on the side of the road to get something from their luggage.

When they got back onto the highway it was raining. Troopers say the driver was going around 60 to 65 mph when he lost traction on the outside lane going westbound. The speed limit on the highway is 70 mph.

The vehicle then went left towards the median, flipped over one time, and came to rest on the passenger side.

Two passengers had to be cut from the vehicle.

All six people inside the vehicle were taken to Martin General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One of the passengers was then flown to PCMH.
