A Rocky Mount man who pleaded no contest to charges he shot a man in the back was sent to prison for at least 13 years.
Johnnie Dixon, Jr. pleaded no contest in Craven County Monday to the October 2010 shooting and robbery near Vanceboro. Deputies say Greg Leary was shot twice when Dixon and two others went to Leary's house to buy a gun.
Judge Arnold Jones sentenced Dixon to serve between 72 and 92 months on the shooting charge, and another 60 to 81 months on the armed robbery count. Dixon was given credit for jail time already served and will receive psychiatric care while in prison.
Brandon Moore of Rocky Mount, and a juvenile were also charged in the case.
