Sheriff: Body Of Man Who Jumped From Bridge Recovered

Officials say the body of the man that jumped from a bridge in order to elude police was found Friday in the Roanoke River six weeks after he was last seen alive.

Bertie County Sheriff's Deputies say a fisherman spotted a body floating in the Roanoke River Friday afternoon and alerted police. The body was later identified as Roland Bell.

Deputies say Bell's body was discovered near the Hamilton boat landing about 7.5 miles from the bridge where he jumped.

Bell led lawmen on a chase on a stolen motorcycle back on April 28th. He crashed on a bridge on the Martin-Bertie County line almost 40 miles later and then jumped into the Roanoke River.

The last time Bell was seen alive authorities say he, along with his brother Brandon Bell and Brandon Montayne, robbed Motorcycle Dreamz in Pitt County.

To the family, I am really so sorry to hear bout your loss. I did not know your fmily member but death itself is bad enough even without it being tragic. May te peace of God be with you doing this time of loss. cling to one another and you will find comfort. Trust in the Lord who never makes a mistake and you will find peace in this storm. For those who are judgmental and merceless, be careful because you never know when you may find yourself in the same place.

Granted Yes he was running from the law and what he did was very wrong and he should have served a little time...However this boy losing his life is a tragedy...Jail or court would have been better than losing his life...im sure his family would agree...My thoughts and prayer go out to the family and friends of this boy...

Was he someone's son, brother, nephew, friend, ect? Yes, but he also broke the law and jumped into that river of his own free will. He chose to do that. He could have chosen to stand up to his consequences. Not paying child support and not "liking" law enforcement are not reasons to run from them and jump to your death. It is incredibly sad that 2 young girls will grow up without their father now but honestly what kind of a father would he have been committing criminal acts and running from law enforcement?

He was the judge, jury and executioner all in one. If he had surrendered he might very well have been given probation instead of a death sentence.
