Latest information on shelters that are opening for residents evacuating for Hurricane Irene.

Beaufort County: (opening at 4:00 p.m.)
PS Jones Middle School
Washington High School

Camp Lejeune:
Camp Lejeune High School, Brewster Middle School , and TTII Elementary School are prepared for base residents.

Carteret County:
Newport Middle School opens at 1:00 p.m. Friday
West Carteret High School opens at 1:00 p.m. Friday
Beaufort Elementary opens Friday at 1:00 p.m. Friday.

Cherry Point:
Opening at 4:00 p.m. Friday will be shelters at the Cherry Tree House, located on 4th Avenue, and the Marine Dome gymnasium. The Marine Dome will be a pet-friendly shelter.

Craven County: (opening 3:00 p.m. Friday)
Havelock High School, Havelock
Brinson Elementary, Cherry Point Road
Benn Quinn Elementary, New Bern
Farm Life Elementary, Vanceboro
The New Outreach Ministry, New Bern

Greene County: (opening at 6pm)
Greene Central High School - small pets accepted

Halifax County:
TJ Davis Recreation Center in Roanoke Rapids (Dare Co. residents only)
William R. Davie Middle School (opening at 7:00 p.m.)
Enfield Middle School (opening at 7:00 p.m.)

Hertford County:
Hertford County High School opens Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Jones County:
Jones County Civic Center
Maysville Elementary School
Comfort Elementary

Johnston County:
Smithfield-Selma Senior H.S in Smithfield.

Martin County:
Riverside High School opens Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Lenoir County: (opening at 5:00 p.m.)
Lenoir Community College (pet friendly)

Marine Core Air Station:
Primary shelter at Fitness Center: Building AS 4000
Secondary shelter at Enlisted Club: Building AS-4308 ("E" Club)

Nash County:
Englewood Baptist Church in Rocky Mount.

Northampton County: (opening at 7:00 p.m.)
Conway Middle School on US-158
Northampton County High School West in Gaston.

Onslow County: (Shelters all open 3:00 p.m. Friday )
Jacksonville Commons Middle School (pet friendly)
Dixon Middle School
Swansboro High School
Richlands High School
Southwest Middle School
White Oak High School

Pasquotank County:
Kermit E. White Center (must bring your own bedding)

Pitt County: (opening at 6:00 p.m.)
Wellcome Middle School
D.H. Conley High School
Farmville Central High School

Washington County:(opening at 6:00 p.m.)
Pines Elementary School

Wilson County:
Raleigh Road Baptist Church in Wilson.
Darden Middle School

Shelters are asking evacuees to bring blankets, needed medical supplies and personal items including food for at least three days.

    Anyone know if the shelter at Riverside is filling up? I have to wait for my husband to get off work and want there to be space for us if we decide to go. Employer has not realeased them yet to come home to their families to make arrangements.

    how is it going to affick Us that live in Edenton, NC? Do you feel that we need to move out and seek shelter somewhere else. We live about 2 blocks from the Chowan River.

    There will be two shelters open in Beaufort County at 4PM. These shelters will be located at PS Jones Middle School and Washington High School.

    Beaufort Co. Most under mandatory evacuation and no shelters open. Come on Beaufort Co. govt. get your act together.

      Maybe because it is not safe to stay in Beaufort County? That is why shelters are open in more inland counties.

        not only are people evacuation, but some people dont have a place to go,really boco, time to get in to gear!

        Not all of Beaufort Co. is low lying, and some parts are more inland than some of Pitt Co.
