EASTERN CAROLINA: Seven Shelters Are Open

There are multiple shelters open in Eastrn Carolina.

In Bertie County, the area hardest hit, a shelter is open at the rescue squad on Highway 42 in Colerain.

Camp Lejeune reports a shelter is open at the Tarawa Terrace II elementary school.

Red Cross shelters are open in Wilson, Snow Hill, Jacksonville, Farmville and Roanoke Rapids.

They include Jacksonville Commons Middle School in Jacksonville, William R. Davie Middle School in Roanoke Rapids, National Guard Armory in Snow Hill, Darden Middle School in Wilson and Farmville Central High School in Farmville.

“We are aware of major damage in numerous communities across Eastern North Carolina. Red Cross volunteers began damage assessment in those areas Saturday and will continue once daylight breaks on Sunday.” said Lynwood Roberson, Regional Executive for the American Red Cross in Eastern North Carolina. “We ask that individuals not affected by these storms stay home so Emergency Officials and Red Cross staff and volunteers can continue assessing damage and providing relief to the victims of these storms. This is still a very dangerous situation due to down power lines and flooded roads.”

The American Red Cross reports it was providing 67 people with emergency shelter, meals, and snacks overnight Saturday.
