Shark Attacks On Increase

Experts say shark attacks in America increased, with the U.S. seeing almost half of the attacks worldwide.

The University of Florida's International Shark File tracks unprovoked shark attacks. In 2010, Florida led the U.S. with 13 attacks, while North Carolina was second with 5 confirmed attacks.

In Florida the number of attacks saw a decrease from the previous year, while in North Carolina the numbers jumped from just one attack in 2009. Over the past 10 years, North Carolina last saw five attacks in 2000, while most years only recorded one or two attacks.

New Hanover County leads the state with the most attacks since 1935 with nine, followed by Onslow and Carteret counties with eight each.
