Eight people were arrested after lawmen checked sex offender compliance in three Eastern Carolina counties today.
Called Operation Northern Star, some 45 members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and local law enforcement visited the homes of 134 registered sex offenders in Gates, Hertford and Northampton counties.
As officers were verifying the compliance of the sex offenders, they also arrested eight people on various charges. They ended up seizing 18 firearms, 677 rounds of ammunition and 13 doses of crack cocaine.
The Marshal Service says today's operation is the first of its kind in this area of the state.
