Severe drought conditions have now spread to include almost all of Eastern Carolina.
The latest drought map shows only Bertie, Halifax, Edgecombe, Chowan, Gates, Northampton, Perquimans and Wilson counties remain under a moderate drought. The rest of the area is under the severe drought.
Just 18 counties in the western part of the state remain free from any drought conditions.
