Martin County Sergeant Fired, ID'ed As Possible Rape Suspect

A patrol sergeant at the Martin County sheriff's office has been fired, after he was identified as a possible suspect in a rape case.

The sheriff's office reports deputies were called to a home in Williamston Monday regarding a rape. Authorities say the off-duty sergeant, David Cross, was identified as a possible suspect.

The sheriff's office immediately called in the SBI to handle the case. A news release reports Cross had been with the sheriff's office since 1998 and was terminated on Monday.

All the SBI will confirm is that its investigators are assisting the sheriff's office with an investigation of rape allegations.

Everyone has different ways of dealing with horrendous things in their life. Just because your sister acted that way, does it mean all women should act the same way? Maybe this woman has other responsibilities to worry about. So she has to go back to work. Maybe her friends are trying to make her feel better by keeping her mind off the subject. It's pretty low to assume that this woman is having a good ole time at others expense. Maybe you should try to understand all the circumstances before you put a half ass opinion out there.

I'm curious. What will you all do when the 2 men are found guilty? Any appologies? Or will you all just disappear?

I don't feel like they will be found GUILTY. Because if you someone has been Raped they wouldn't be out there at partys and acting like everything is ok my sister was raped 6 years ago for months she couldn't stand to be around men & she stayed home for weeks with windows closed . this is not the case with this girl she was back at work 2 days later hanging out with friends

The evidence against him is stacking up fast. IF he wasn't guilty he would have been put on leave NOT FIRED ! Just lets you know that the law thinks they are above the law...

You can't print the victim's name.! With all of you rabid about david's innocence, it would be a witch hunt. Not to mention if anyone knows the family, as they would be harassed by you all.

They had to fire him. He works in a field that everyone looks up to. The credibility of the police dept. would be in jeopardy(especially to women) if they kept him on any other way. The sheriffs dept. did the right thing. David was wrong in getting himself in a situation that would discredit the police dept. After 13 years, he should've known better.

Why is everyone so quick to judge David? How do you know this girl was even telling the truth. What because he's a cop "he must think he's above the law" and therefore he had to of raped her because she said so. BS!! Im ready to see this girls picture front page of the news paper when it comes out that shes making it all up for money(SN: she must not know Cops dont make that much money) and turning a Family's world upside down in the process. Cops are fine when they risk their lives for our families, but everyone is fast to say that they are guilty when they're accused of something. Can't wait to see her face frontpage News... Praying for the Cross Family!

I agree wit you! If that was me I would tell everyone who she was! There is no way that I would let the media run my name down and her name be kepy quiet! Women have too many rights as it is right now!

So Data Man if your wife or daughter reported she was rape by a cop you would want her picture on the front page.Wow women have too many rights. Yeah actually we don't.

Let me play the devils advocate here. Lets just say this man is guilty and you have this woman that was violated and knows without a shadow of a doubt it was him. How you do think your post regarding her is making her feel? Just because you know someone you actually do not know what they are capable of doing. Look at all the people that sit in the court room waiting their trial. Someone that knows this person may say it couldn't be them. All I ask, instead of slandering this woman, let the courts decide his guilt or innocents.

I agree with you. Just because they know him does not mean he can't do anything wrong. He is not perfect. I know him too. Very polite person. More respectful than any officer I have spoken too and this is a horrible situation, but I can't jump on his side because he is nice. Alot of people are nice and do terrible things.

I do not believe he guilty, been a great officer.and why 2 suspects somebody must, confused or did it take 2.They need to charge her for something. She must be a sorry person to do a man like this and his family,I think she's telling a lie on David just to mess up his career and others have been Guilty and still on force as a Detective. One is just as good as the other not who you are.

She did not fire him. Sheriff Gibbs did. If the sheriff did not have probable cause to fire him then David knows what to do. Stop blaming the victim.

Victim.. How are you so quick to say he is guilty and make her a victim just because she said that 2 people raped her? Where was everyone else at this party while she was "being rape"?? And its pretty disgusting when females yell "rape" thinking they will get something out of it, such as, money. Then get mens pictures front page new and the man turns out innocent. Everyone was qucik to say the Duke "rich kids" "raped" that stripper and then they didnt. She just wanted money!! Happens a lot now a day.

Because right now she is and he has been fired. So get over it. To his boss he is guilty or he wouldn't been fired.

Sheriff has the right to fire anyone at any time for anyreason. He does not have to have probable cause.
