Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

For those who cannot visit a center in person, FEMA's toll-free phone number is 1-800-621-3362. The deadline to apply for assistance was recently extended to Nov. 30.

FEMA will close three of its disaster relief centers Friday. People in three local counties have until the end of the day to file for federal assistance.

Centers in the Tyrrell County of Columbia, Hyde County's Swan Quarter and Halifax will close at 6 p.m.

The centers provide people on staff to help hurricane victims through the process of applying for federal aid. FEMA says they are continuing to receive new applications from those devastated by Hurricane Irene. They also say people's needs may have changed since the storm hit eight weeks ago.
