Navy Secretary: Great Day For America

The Secretary of the Navy says he is glad the Osama bin Laden chapter is now closed. Ray Mabus spoke to East Carolina University graduates this morning.

Mabus says he was glad the worst terrorists in the world was brought to justice. "It was a great day for america and it showed how much you can do when you got this absolutely seemless blending of military and intelligence it was a proud day."

The Navy secretary says he watched on Sunday, just like the rest of us.

While Mabus was in Greenville speaking to graduates, Defense Secretary Robert Gates was at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro.

Friday is a big day for thousands of students and their families about to end one chapter of their life and begin's Graduation day at East Carolina University.

ECU's Spring 2011 Commencement is scheduled for 9 oclock Friday morning at Dowdy-Ficklen stadium. More than 3,500 graduates are expected to receive degrees.

U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus will deliver the commencement address. We'll see if Secretary Mabus, who oversees the Navy and the Marine Corps, makes any mention of the recent success of the Navy Seals in the slaying of Osama bin Laden.

The selection of Mabus as speaker caps a year focused on ECU's relationship with the military....a few months ago, ECU was awarded with the 2010 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition by the government to employers for outstanding support of employees who serve in the guard and the reserve.

    Mr Mabus did an excellent job on his speech yesterday. He made some very interesting points.
