School Safety Top Of Mind After Student Shot at NC High School

In wake of the school shooting Monday in Cumberland County, schools in the east are asking themselves what more they can do to keep students safe.

Like Cape Fear High School in Fayetteville, Washington High in Beaufort County can monitor students in and outside the school with surveillance cameras. They also hold regular lock-down drills. School information officer Sarah Hodges says they're always working to improve safety.

"We'll never be satisfied with our level of preparation. We're always trying to beef up our plans and beef up our staff to have everyone ready, but we'll never be satisfied with where we're at." said Hodges.

A 15-year-old Cape Fear High student faces charges of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. An 18-year-old student, Ta'von McLaurin, has been charged with felony aiding and abetting.
