The hot and humid weather pattern will continue through the week across eastern North Carolina. The unstable air combined with a stationary front across southern Virginia will continue to trigger mainly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday. Coverage will be about 30% to 40% and will tend to favor the northern half of the area. Showers and thunderstorms could increase late in the week as a cool front approaches from the northwest and moves into the region Friday and Saturday. Highs will be close to 90° in the afternoons with lows in the 70s. The heat index will approach 100° each day.
