Salter Path Post Office To Shut Its Doors

A Carteret County post office has fallen victim to the U.S. Postal Service budget cuts.

The Salter Path Post Office will be open for its final day Friday, according to the Carteret News Times. After that, mail will be run through the Atlantic Beach Post Office.

The U.S. Postal Service is looking at closing several other post offices in the area, including one in downtown New Bern and Jacksonville.

In Germany, many post offices have closed their doors. They have been replaced with kiosks (similar to a RedBox) that allows people to buy stamps and postage. It also weighs the package and has a spot for you to safely place your package. Seems like a good idea for the US, especially in smaller towns that don't need a full service post office. Also, why did the PO remove stamp machines? I hate waiting in line and not being able to buy single stamps on the weekends.

Let walmart take over the U.S postal service and it will make money. they will have to get rid of mr.snails pace but it will turn a profit.

I agree. The postal union and the management together are the blame.

No congress is to blame. If they had not required the PO to fund the retirement fund 75 years before a person is even hired, so they would have the funds to get their greedy little fingers into they would not be in even half the mess they are in now. No other agency is required to fund retirement like that.
