SCLC Hosts Meeting On High Gas Prices

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference hosted the first Citizens United Against High Gas Prices meeting Wednesday night in Pitt County.

Those who joined in on the meeting say they hope it will be the first of many. Folks listened to chairman Keith Cooper talk about where all the high prices are across Greenville when it comes to prices at the pump.

Those who turned out for the meeting were concerned about the potential continuous rise of crude oil.

Cooper hopes to have similar meetings in Ayden, Farmville, and Grimesland.

The only thing that the majority of these comments show is that people don't read. The story reads, "The Southern Christian Leadership Conference hosted the first CITIZENS UNITED AGAINST HIGH GAS PRICES meeting...." What are you talking about with the sarcastic racism jokes. Are you not a citizen? Seriously!!! Use a little common since. Read and comprehend sometimes. Maybe you won't look ignorant all the time. It is a legitimate meeting to me. Gas is expensive. It needs to be addressed instead of commented on like on this page. All those with issues go to the meeting. I didn't see any information in the story that indicated that only minorities can attend. It said citizens. I know that the SCLC is an African American based group but please...don't be so narrow minded.

Snake well thank u and if the spill was properly contained and things happened fast enough it might have saved a lot of people from having to deal with it. But it wasn’t and if the same reaction time is used on a similar incident the same or a worse outcome could occur. The only thing I’m concerned about is that the state gets every cent out who ever drills, if they allow it, to give that money back to people by cutting or even eliminating taxes on gas in this state. And I know that is VERY wishful thinking but hey crazier things have happened. Everyone in the long chain of oil money gets their fair share and the consumer gets stuck with the bill, it would b nice for us to get a slice of that pie too. U can check that link out to c a break down of the profit.

Eric, actually a good post for you. If NC played their cards correct like Palin did in Alaska, our income taxes would be reduced with the oil companies paying for it. Most likely, the oil would go to Richmond Va. I noticed this morning though...that wishfull thinking=$3.57 a gallon. Propane is cheaper to use in your car right now, however, if everybody converted to it...demand...price goes up on heat. Lastly, even the BP spill, didn't kill fishing in the gulf. The key is to clean it up and not wait for it to get to shore. That was just a failure on our presidents inability to make a decision....

To eyes roll, You have it ABSOLUTELY right!! Why don't they spend their collective time and money on "holding community forums educated the adults in "their" communities on how to become a positive influence in the lives of youth"!!!!!!!! You know, something they can ACTUALLY do something about. Where are the priorities of this organization anyway?? Seems to me they only want to cause trouble instead of making any REAL positive community change. They seem lost having a meeting about gas prices???

Yes it would be nice to have another fuel altenative, and we do, it is called natural gas and we have plenty of it, all we have to do is convert all big trucks and other similar vehicles and we would reduce our consumption of oil greatly, but we also have plenty of oil not just offshore but right here on land if the liberals and enviromentalist would let it happen but they will not.I wonder if the sclc will try to blame Bush for the high prices or realize obama their patron saint is more of the cause because he wants to see them go higher.

If the US can make a decent fuel alternative and sell it to the world, and of course ourselves, not only can we break our foreign dependency on fuel but we could pull ourselves out of this debt and maybe even destroy unemployment. I know it is easier said than done and will probably never happen any time soon or at all, but nothing like a little wishful thinking to start the day. And just curious if they do allow drilling in this state or off shore of it who will run it? Will the state contract a company or will they just give the green light for some random oil company to do it. And if there is a private company involved will there b stipulations saying that a large percentage of the oil has to b left in state or will they b free to sell it to whom they so choose. Just because oil is being drilled in state doesn’t mean it has to stay in state. I hope the people in charge look at all these things and more, because if a spill like BP happens here, its lights out for fishing.
