POLICE: Man Shot As He Tried To Run Over Officer

A Goldsboro man will face a judge this afternoon on charges he tried to kill police officers with his car Monday afternoon.

Jonathan Williams was shot in the arm, while Officer Anthony Ravine's leg was struck by the man's car.

Police had tried to stop Williams' car for traffic violations and a narcotics investigation when they say he drove off. A short police chase ended when Williams drove his vehicle behind a home on Pearson Street. As officers got out, they say Williams drove toward the officers. In addition to Officer Ravine being hit, Williams' car also struck his cruiser. Ravine fired several shots at the approaching vehicle, one which struck Williams in his left arm.

Both men were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital and Williams is now in jail on a $600,000 bond. He's charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony possession of a schedule II substance, driving careless and reckless, and an unsafe movement violation.

Because the officer fired his weapon, the SBI is investigating the shooting.

Previous Story
The State Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting this afternoon involving a Goldsboro police officer.

Police say it happened around 1:40 p.m. on Pearson Street after a member of the department's Selective Enforcement Unit fired on a fleeing suspect.

Police say it began about three minutes earlier when officers tried to stop a vehicle at the corner of James and Kadis streets. They say the vehicle didn't stop and a short chase began.

A news release says neither the officer nor the suspect sustained any life-threatening injury, though both were take to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.

No word yet on why the officers were attempting to stop the vehicle in the first place.

@GPD Wife, your living in a fantasy world if you think LEO's don't stop cars for no reason. I'm proof. Was riding one Sat night, top down enjoying the breeze and GPD pulled me saying I " looked like someone that may be drinking". They thought they has a young college kid but I was a local 45 yr male. When I pressed them more it was like "you can go now". I appreciate what they do but there are enough of them that aren't "right" and seemingly can get a littlr trigger happy. Not saying thats the case in this story, but im just saying.

Your just saying is just that....... BLAH BLAH BLAH!! I know what my husband and his brothers/sisters do EVERY SINGLE DAY! If he thought you were drinking then YOU must have done something stupid aka crossing center or something. Obviously you have very little respect for the LEO, FIRE, EMS in your community. If they stopped you, then it is just that. Don't get up here fussing and whining bc you got pulled. You can not judge an ENTIRE department on ONE person. Maybe you should.....The officer involved is very good friends with several of the people who have commented up here and he is NOT trigger happy. It is amazing how people like you just pass judgement and do not know a thing about what really happened or happens everyday my husband and his brothers/sisters put their badges on and kiss their family good-bye, bc rightfully it very well may be their last.

Too bad the cop had a bad aim. Maybe he needs to spend more time at target practice.

Maybe you should try shooting perfect with a handgun when someone is trying to kill you, especially when you are being run over. It sounds like you are obviously better trained than these officers because you are the one that is called when people need help.

You have absolutly no idea of penitration and ballistics do you.I have shot car doors in a junk yards with 9 mils,38 cal, several other pistols,3&1/2 inch 000 high powered round buckshot at 20 yards and beyond and at different angles.I would say about only 50% would go through the car doors.I have a 45 caliber air rifle that produces better penitration than any of these guns listed above shooting 454cal 141 grain round balls.80% of those leads go through the door into the seat or depending on the angle through the first door, into the second door, and put one heck of a dent on the far(exit)side of that door.I personally think they should arm police officers with better penitrating rounds.

Are you serious? If he had of killed the guy then someone or maybe even yourself would be saying he used "excessive force". I'd be willing to bet he wasn't shooting to kill but more so shooting to stop the thug from driving towards him.

Trust me, I would never say any of the such. It's hard to aim for a shoulder when someone is driving towards you. So if the cop had of hit him in the head. Ooops was aiming for his arm.

Shame this officers aim is so bad, maybe he should spend more time at target practice. Maybe next time

I don't see any different than that crazy white lady trying to kill her husband in front of her child in a school parking lot where it could have been alot worst, because she could have killed other people also.

Bet you failed reading comprehension in school. The only way you could know the difference is to have comprehended what you read. Which obviously you didn't do. Better luck on the next story.
